This is the first time in the entire history of the United States. One elected president received the first-ever criminal sentence for the former and incoming US president on Friday. This address is the “unconditional discharge”. That means Trump will get no prison time or probation as he prepares to enter the white house for the second time on January 20.
“This has been a very terrible experience” and address it as the “setback” for the entire New York court system. Trump also told the judges overseeing his case minutes before he handed down the sentence.
Trump was also convicted on May 30 on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to cover up the hush money payment to the popular porn star Stormy Daniels right before the 2016’s presidential election. In the incoming presidential election, he did not physically attend the sentencing he appeared via remote video feed from the South Floria.
After 30 minutes of the hearing, Judge Juan Merchan released Trump without any ongoing conditions, wishing him “Godspeed” during his second presidential term. Was Trump’s sentence too harsh and too lenient? Trump being convicted Friday for a felony and then walking out of court a free man provoked strong feelings from observers.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., stated on X that Trump’s sentence was “a joke and a disgrace.”
Blackburn also added
“This witch hunt and ruling,”, “was an insult to the American people.”
Jasmine Crockett of Texas, a former public defender, stated Trump got off way too easy for the serious crimes of which he was sentenced.
Crockett said on X
“There is a two-tiered system of justice in this country,”
Josh Meyer also said
, “and Donald Trump lives on the tier where he gets to walk into the White House without spending a single day in jail or being put on probation after being convicted of 34 felonies.”
