Over two million Indians visited the US in 2024, a 26% increase from 2023. The US Embassy reported over five million Indian citizens who have nonimmigrant visas. This is a huge number of Indian visitors increasing five-fold in the past four years.
The present statistics said
“The US mission to India issued more than one million nonimmigrant visas for the second year in a row, including a record number of visitor visas, underscoring the huge demand of Indians for travel to the United States for tourism, business, and education,”.
The Indian embassy reports an increase in nonimmigrant visa renewals due to increased processing of interview waiver-eligible applications and a successful US pilot program allowing Indian workers to renew their visas.
It also added
“This pilot programme streamlined the renewal process for thousands of applicants, and the Department of State is working to formally establish a US-based renewal program in 2025,”.
The US mission to India issued thousands of immigrant visas, facilitating family reunification and skilled professional migration. These holders became permanent residents, enriching the Indian diaspora community in the US. The mission also provided over 24,000 passports and consular services to American citizens in India.
It also said
“More Indian students than ever before now have U.S. student visas. In 2024, India became the top sender of international students for the first time since the 2008-09 academic year with more than 331,000 students overall studying in the US,”.
Many exchange visitors can stay in the US for two years after completing their programs, without returning home.
“The removal of India from the Exchange Visitors Skills List has provided greater flexibility for these Indian J-1 nonimmigrant visa holders,”.
