As leader Xi Jinping expands a massive purge in the top echelons of the largest military in the world. The defense ministry said China suspended the senior military official and placed him under investigation for corruption.
Defense Ministry spokesperson Wu Qian stated at a news conference Thursday. Admiral Miao Hua, a member of the influential Central Military Commission (CMC), China’s top military body headed by Xi, is being investigated for “serious violations of discipline,” . Address it as a euphemism for corruption.
Miao, 69, is the chief of the CMC’s Political Work Department. He was just a political officer in the army in the coastal province of Fujian throughout Xi’s tenure as a local official there in the 1990s and early 2000s. He is largely regarded as a close protégé of Xi.
Miao’s suspension and investigation were announced the day after the Financial Times, citing both current and former US officials, said that China’s Defense Minister Dong Jun was being investigated for corruption.
A spokesman for the Defense Ministry called the allegation “sheer fabrication.”
“Those rumor mongers harbor evil motives. China expresses strong dissatisfaction over such smears”
He stated, “China is really unhappy with these allegations.
Since last year, Xi has launched a broad campaign against corruption in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China, targeting the Rocket Force, a top-tier division in charge of the nation’s conventional and nuclear missiles.
Many high-ranking generals were overthrown by the purge, including former defense minister Li Shangfu and his predecessor Wei Fenghe, who was kicked out of the party in June due to corruption charges. For news & daily updates you can also follow allbusinessinsider.
